Prices mostly, stock less so. We asked ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google where to buy eight products sold on their brands’ own US stores, three times each, and checked every answer against the store’s live price and stock. 5 of 55 store prices were wrong, and most errors didn’t repeat. But one in-stock product was called sold out in all six ChatGPT and Perplexity answers, and 9 answers named another seller as the cheapest or the best deal.
A buyer asks ChatGPT where to buy your product. The answer says: sold out. Your store says: in stock. Most buyers never check.
We asked ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google where to buy 8 products sold on the brands’ own stores, three times each, and checked every answer against the store’s live price and stock.
Prices were mostly right. 5 of 55 store prices were wrong, and most of those errors didn’t repeat in the next run.
Stock was different. One product was sold out in all six ChatGPT and Perplexity answers. The store had it in stock every time. And in nine answers, the assistant named another seller as the cheapest or the best deal.
Every one of those sold-out answers still named the brand, so a mention checker would count them as wins. Read what the answer says about price, stock and where to buy, and check your product page. That one had a hidden sold-out label next to the price. The full data is free at hasmord.com/research.
Eight products, three runs an hour apart, on October 22, 2026, United States. Prices for other sellers were not checked. Method, limits and data are in the study below.
